Drawing on the resources of the University of Georgia and the legacy of J.W. Fanning, the Fanning Institute offers a full range of community and economic development services throughout Georgia. The University has always supported community, leadership, and economic development across the state, though until July of 2005, this support was provided through separate units and programs. To address capacity building, an organizational alignment was needed. The result was a single cohesive organization representing the University’s full range of community and economic development services.
Since established, the Fanning Institute has continued to develop a diverse and talented faculty with expertise that evolves with the ever-changing needs of Georgia’s communities and citizens. The work of the Institute includes leadership development, community economic development, city and regional planning, mediation and conflict resolution, facilitation and public engagement, and historic preservation.
